OHIEM, Open Heaven International Evangelistic Ministry

HISTORY OF O.H.I.E.M.

In 1986, while a fourth year student of Addis Abeba University, Brother Gebru Woldu received from God Almighty the burden of sharing the Good News to the unsaved. Brother Gebru started out by conducting street evangelism in the streets of Addis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia.

After graduation, he worked as a geophysicist in the Ethiopian Institute of Geological Surveys, UNDP and Oil and Gas Companies. While working in these organizations, Brother Gebru conducted evangelical, healing and deliverance services in his spare time but with full dedication. He also played an instrumental role in the planting of churches in the rural areas of the country.

In 1989, God Almighty visited Brother Gebru in a special way and gave him a calling and a vision to reach the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. With full assurance of the great calling and the vision he received, Brother Gebru consistently prayed so that the Lord will give him wisdom, direction and committed partners in order to fulfill his calling and vision. In 1992, the Lord gave him a vision to establish OHIEM and He directed him to three persons in the Dire Dawa Full Gospel Church in Eastern Ethiopia. The three persons who assisted him to fulfill the vision were: Brother Tollya Kassa, Sister Berhan Habte and Brother Bruk Seifu. The same year Brother Gebru started to minister around the world.

In order to be faithful to the calling of God, Brother Gebru and his partners spent time in prayer and fasting so that God will reveal OHIEM to the body of Christ and thereby open an office in Addis Abeba. In 1994, God answered their prayers and the vision of OHIEM was unveiled to their local church i.e. Dire Dawa Full Gospel Church first and later on to the Ethiopian Full Gospel Church head office in Addis Abeba.

In 1997 the Ethiopian Full Gospel Church Head Office gave to OHIEM its wholehearted support, and in 1998 the Federal Government of Ethiopia registered OHIEM as a non profitable Christian organization. Thereafter OHIEM was launched as an international ministry with its head office in Addis Abeba.

May God bless Dr. Nigusse Teferra and His family, who allowed the use of the service quarter of their private home as an office for the ministry. OHIEM started with only one computer; however as the staff increased, there was a need to move to a newly rented office.

Since its launching, OHIEM has conducted several revival and evangelic conferences overseas and has also conducted evangelic crusades in stadiums in many parts of Ethiopia. In addition the ministry has been engaged in the training of leaders in the cities and rural areas of Ethiopia. In 1997, God blessed OHIEM with ministers who flow with the will of God and also blessed the ministry with seven computers, a powerful sound system, electric power generator, office furniture, musical instruments, electrical cables, flood lamps.

Above all God gave us His wisdom and anointing.

For all these OHIEM gives honour and glory to God.
